ACS Spring 2022
This spring I presented three times at the National ACS Conference. Once in the green chemistry and methods section (March 20, 2022) on a project generating disulfides from thiols with an oxoammonium salt, and twice for a project using borrowing hydrogen catalysis to access nitrogen heterocycles which was presented at the heterocycles section (March 23, 2022) and the sci-mix (March 21, 2022).
ODU Reign In Science Day
This fall (2021) ODU's Chemistry and Biochemistry department got together to host the ODU reign in science day. All sorts of stations were set up by grad students alongside demonstrations from the professors. I got the chance to have my own station where I handed out golden (brass) pennies and explained the zinc replacement reaction and subsequent alloy heating used to make them. It was genuinely great to see some of the kids go wide-eyed at seeing golden pennies, with many of them asking way more questions than I originally anticipated.
The Chemistry Olympiad
I had the fantastic opportunity to participate in phase 2 of the chemistry Olympiad at Norfolk State University in 2019. This experience was thrilling for me in how much advanced chemistry I got to be tested on. I placed 2nd in the Norfolk region.
